Dr Patrick de Waal qualified with a MBChB degree from the University of Cape Town in 1992. He specialised in ear, nose and throat surgery at Groote Schuur Hospital and the Red Cross Children's Hospital gaining a fellowship in Otorhinolaryngology (ENT) in 2000.

He subsequently worked as an ENT specialist and lecturer at the University of Cape Town and Groote Schuur Hospital, running the otology (ear) and vertigo (dizziness) clinics, as well as dealing with all other aspects of general ENT surgery.

During 2004 he worked as an ENT consultant at a large NHS hospital in Northern Ireland, dealing mainly with nasal and sinus surgery as well as paediatric ENT.

Dr de Waal is registered as an ENT specialist with the Health Professions Council of SA (HPCSA) - reg number MP 0393797, and as a medical practitioner with the British General Medical Council - reg no. 4056782.

He has published articles in international journals and has attended courses and congresses in the UK, France, USA and South Africa.
